About the Department

Mother's Union was founded by Mary Sumner, she wanted to create an organization for Women that brought together rich and poor, the talented and the illiterate to build a network that would support mothers of all kinds as they brought up their children in the Christian faith.

To promote programs that contribute to the holistic well being of families.

Objectives

  • To uphold Christ's teaching on the nature of marriage and to promote its wider understanding.
  • To encourage parents to bring up their children in the Christian faith and life of the church.
  • To maintain a worldwide fellowship of Christians, united in prayer, worship and service.
  • To promote and develop conditions in society favorable for stable family life and the protection of children.
  • To help individuals and families whose lives have met with adversity.

Our story

History

In 1987, Nambale became a Diocese, and the first Mothers' Union President was the late Grace Namango, with Lay Canon Petina Nekesa serving as the first Coordinator. From 1992 to 2014, Mama Mary Makhandia served as the second President, while Mama Consulate Namulanda and Mama Mary Makokha Were served as Coordinators. From 2014 to 2023, Mama Phylis Magina held the position of President, working alongside Lay Canon Mildred Mukoswah as Coordinator. Currently, Rev. Regina Obuya is the fourth President, serving with Lay Canon Mildred Mukoswah continuing as the Coordinator.

Strategic Department Programs

  • Marriage Enrichment Seminars: Equipping young couples and newlyweds with biblical principles for lasting unions.
  • Parenting in the Digital Era: Guiding mothers on mentoring children in Christian ethics amidst modern challenges.
  • Widows Support & Welfare: Providing food supplies, prayer circles, and housing repairs for elderly widows.
